Why the book of Judges? It's so puzzling, primitive, embarrassing (to Christians) and violent. One could say, "It's just strange!" But if you sat down to read the book, good luck putting it down easily. It's just so interesting! But be careful not to miss the point. The theme of Judges is much greater than the stories of colorful and dramatic human characters who are deplorable. It’s also not a "Book of Virtues" full of people we seek to imitate. Instead, the book is a mirror that helps us see ourselves correctly and a window that we look through to see the beauty of God and how He rescues us.
It's about the Gospel!
